If the full meaning of love must be understood then it will be clear whether love and ego are two boundaries, or they are the same thing in different guises. Some may doubt whether love is selfish. First let us see the meaning of love. We predict ourselves in many ways: I love my family, I love my relatives, I love my friends, I love my spouse or partner, I love my co-workers and I love God.
In all these cases, is there love without expectations? Some may expect a return in monetary benefit. Some may expect gratitude, some may expect respect, some may expect the love they themselves want. No expectation can be love. In a sense it is a business. Even the feeling that you are in the position that I want you is an expression of ego. Love is a bit hard to describe. Love delights in bowing. Ego does not bend. Love is happy when it gives, and ego is happy when it receives. Love has no inner motive and does not seek gain.
Where can such love to be found? The love of the universe is perfect. How can we understand universal love? We can feel its bliss even if we taste a drop of that love and the only way to do that is through the relationship we create with those who understand that universal love. The presence of masters who have gone through the spiritual path and realized the nature of the soul will help us. If we cannot find such a Guru, as Pitamakar Patriji, who started the Pyramid Spiritual Society Movement, said, the Anapana Sati Dhyana, where our breath becomes our Guru, will definitely help us.
It is not just an extremely easy meditation. It is the Raja Yoga by which we know ourselves and thereby understand the universe. Self-awareness is the key understanding in any meditation practice. Only by understanding ourselves can we realize the nature of true love. Love does not even perceive the ego as its other boundary. To feel the grace of the universe showering upon us, we need to know the laws of its movement. All this is possible through meditation.
Love is like light. Light never sees the nature of darkness. Darkness is not there when light comes. When love fills the mind, there is no room for any negative thoughts. Love doesn't even realize what it's doing. There are no barriers to it, no expectations. This is what Valluvan said about love. It is the incomparable nature of this love that sages say that love is Shiva, love is God.
